Tarot Cards: Major Arcana

Tarot cards comprise of major and minor arcana cards. While minor arcana cards have four suits, major arcana cards are not in suits. The major arcana cards may be related but not tied to a particular suit of cards. They signify principles, concepts, ideals and so on.

Major Arcana cards are considered the basic or the key cards. Each card represents an important human trait whether dark, bright, good, bad or angelic.

These cards almost cover the entire spectrum of life of a person, his intellect, aspirations, feelings, emotions, sentiments, hopes, fears, love, hatred, weaknesses, adventures, successes and failures, etc. Major Arcana, in short, represents the physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual aspects of human life.

Many of the cards in this suit depict an archetypal figure, which represents the quintessential nature of that type of person, whether it is compassionate, maternal, suppressive, cruel, ignorant, shameless, strong, authoritative, cowardly, traditional, modern, heretic, mystical, mysterious, friendly, inimical and so on.

Some of the representative figures are as follows. The cards bear numbers and names start from Zero, which depicts the Fool.

Interpretation of the cards

There are no hard and fast rules for interpreting the cards. The interpretation of the symbols or photos on each card depends upon the individual tarot reader, his background, experience and outlook.  The truth is that the interpretation of each card may differ from time to time even in case of the same reader.

The reason for this is that the clients keep changing and so do the time and the environment. Each client comes with his own hopes, fears, aspirations, urges, needs, emotional and mental states.

Each card emits different responses and energies according   to the nature of the questions and emotional states of the client subject. Therefore, the interpretation of the same card also keeps changing even though the reader and the client remain the same.
