According to the Chinese system of astrology, there is a sixty year cycle of time and the year of birth of a person indicates a certain phase or aspect of this cycle. There are twelve animals, which symbolize our fate. The exact origin of this system is, however, not known. There is a legend of a bored king in heaven who asked his servant to bring twelve animals from the earth for his entertainment. The servant brought twelve animals. Each animal demonstrated his own peculiar qualities and the king decided their hierarchy. While the rat was given the first place the last place went to the pig.
