Psychic TV

Psychic TV or PTV, an electronic music group, was conceived by Alex Fergusson at 50 Beck Road, Hackney to create Industrial music. The idea was implemented with the cooperation of Genesis P-Orridge and Monte Cazazza in 1981. Industrial music is a comprehensive term that includes varied styles and interpretations like jazz. Another great contributor to this movement was Alex Fergusson, the musician, who had already played with Gen in Alternative TV. Gen was a drummer and one of his new poem “Just Drifting” inspired Fergusson to turn it into a song to be played by a band to called Psychic TV. Alex played the “Just Drifting” in a stunning manner on his acoustic guitar and it became the first song of the album on WEA, “Force the Hand of Chance”. They also invited Peter Christopherson to direct its video production and thus an astounding work of music was created.

Contributions to the Psychic TV were also made by many eminent artists that, among others, included Coil, Current 93, Hafler Trio, The Cult, White Stains, Soft Cell, XKP, Master Musicians of Jajouka, Matthew Best, Daniel Simon Black, Bill Breeze, Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson, Derek Jarman, Fred Giannelli, John Gosling, Timothy Leary, Rose McDowall, Stephen Kent, Vagina Dentata Organ, Andrew Weatherall, and Larry Thrasher.

Almost simultaneously another music album ‘Dreams Less Sweet’ was also created. Its catchy pop songs were written by Fergusson and its sound experiments were created by Peter Christopherson and Geoff Rushton. Later Alex Fergusson left and was replaced with techno artist Fred Gianelli who worked from 1988-1992. The key studio albums of this period were Jack the Tab, Tekno Acid Beat and Towards the Infinite Beat.

In 1992 Genesis met Larry Thrasher and from 1993 to 1999, Psychic TV created psychedelic pop music notably the critically acclaimed “Trip/Reset”, "Thee Fractured Garden" and "Breathe".

Genesis shifted to California where an unfortunate fire destroyed the entire PTV sampling library which altogether crippled Genesis when he tried to jump down the windows to escape death.

In 2003, the Psychic TV was resurrected and a new PTV album ‘Hell is Invisible …Heavens is Here’ was created by Genesis.
