Chinese Astrology

Astrology is the belief of fate as dictated by the heavenly bodies. There are dozens of different widely practiced sets of astrology, but among these many different forms of belief systems in the world, Chinese Astrology stands out and is one of the most widely spread to date.

Chinese astrology has its foundations, like any other astrology, on astronomy or the study of the heavenly bodies, adding mysticism relevant to Chinese culture.

But unlike other sets of astrology, it does not focus mainly on the positioning of the heavenly bodies. Rather it uses a set of calendars in relation to ancient Chinese teachings such as the concept of Yin and Yang and Chinese astronomy.

According to Chinese astrology, there are only five classical planets that are used to associate a person with a set of characteristics and features. Such characteristics are present from birth, depending on the time a person was born. Of course, the positions of the planets, the stars, the sun, and the moon are relevant but the greatest factor that can contribute to an individual’s “set” personality is the year in which they are born with regards to their Yin-Yang Connection, their Zodiac Element, and their Zodiac Animal Sign.

Firstly a person is given a Yin-Yang affinity and is also born into a year in which an element is attributed to: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. A person is assigned his affinity at birth depending on what date the Chinese Year ends: dates ending in even numbers and zero have a Yang affinity, while those with odd numbers have a Yin affinity. The Chinese Year, unlike the regular year, ends and begins anew at February.

Next, the person is given an animal sign. The Zodiac Animal Sign is a set of twelve animals that each have corresponding years in which they are said to divinely intervene, repeating the cycle every dozen years. The belief goes that the animal a person is attributed to is the personality that person will possess. In example, a person born in the Year of the Ox will have a personality similar to an ox – hard-willed and persevering but stubborn at times.

A person is given this title in example, Yang Earth Ox. Given this title, it takes a full sixty years for this title to repeat itself. It goes that what can be attributed to people, can also be attributed to the entire year and throughout. People have used Chinese Astrology to determine the occurrence of events predicting crop growth or famine, floods and typhoons as is dictated by the fates.

Using the knowledge of affinity of either Yin or Yang, element born to, and animal ascribed to, people over the past hundreds of years have used this method to read the characteristics of other people promptly having an entire library with which to understand people.

Despite having no scientific background or proof of the existence or power of this cycle, people have been using this for thousands of years with amazingly accurate results. And although there are still some skeptics, people cannot deny the unscientific but truthful predictions of people themselves as dictated by Chinese Astrology.
